AI note taker
How it works
Step 1: Upload what you have
Slides, PDFs, Word docs, pasted text or photos of handwritten notes — whatever your class gave you.
Step 2: Pick the depth
Concise for a one-page cheat sheet, standard for complete notes, detailed when you want to study from the notes alone.
Step 3: Study from clean notes
Notes are grouped by topic with key terms, examples and a page or slide reference for every section.
Step 4: Turn notes into practice
Generate flashcards and quizzes from the same material in one click, so reading turns into recall.

What actually works
Evidence-informed study advice you can use with or without TurboStudy.
Copying slides isn't studying
Rewriting slides word for word feels productive, but it's mostly transcription: your hands are busy while your brain does very little with the ideas. A widely cited 2013 review of study techniques (Dunlosky and colleagues) rated re-reading and highlighting as low-utility, and practice testing and spaced practice as high-utility.
Good notes are a means, not the end. Their job is to organize the material so you can practice it. Letting AI handle the first draft frees up time for the part that actually moves your exam result: testing yourself.
What useful study notes contain
Whether you write them yourself or generate them, check that your notes have these pieces:
- The big picture first — two or three sentences on what this lecture is about and why it matters.
- Definitions in plain language, not just the textbook's wording.
- At least one example per important concept, linked to the concept it shows.
- How ideas connect: what causes what, what depends on what, what's often confused with what.
- What the instructor emphasized — repeated points, worked examples, anything flagged as important.
- Open questions: anything you didn't understand, so you can ask about it.
Review within 24 hours
Memory for new material drops off fastest in the first day or two. A short review the same day or the next — while you can still remember what the lecturer meant — is worth more than a long re-read a week later.
Keep it active: read a section, look away, and say the main points out loud. If you can't, that's the section to spend time on.
Turn every page of notes into questions
The Cornell method splits each page into notes and a narrow “cue” column for questions. The questions are the useful part: writing them forces you to decide what matters, and answering them later — with the notes covered — is retrieval practice.
TurboStudy automates the question-writing step: every set of notes can become a quiz or a flashcard deck, so you can test yourself on exactly what you just summarized.

Frequently asked questions
Can the AI note taker read handwritten notes?
Yes. In the TurboStudy app you can upload photos of handwritten notes or whiteboards and we'll read the text, then generate notes, flashcards and quizzes from it.
Does it take notes during a live lecture?
TurboStudy works on material after class. If your school allows recording, Premium members can upload lecture audio and get a timestamped transcript that turns into notes.
Are the notes accurate?
Notes are generated only from the material you upload, and each section links back to the page or slide it came from so you can check it. AI can still make mistakes, so verify anything important.
Does it work for any subject?
It works with any course material that contains text — sciences, humanities, business, law, health and more. Math is written in plain text, so very equation-heavy material may need a quick check.
Is the AI note taker free?
Yes. The Free plan includes AI notes for 3 uploads a month (up to 30 pages each), and you can try the notes generator on this page without an account.
